In what may appear surprising to fans, Song Hye-Kyo's name has will appear in the credits of 'The Battleship Island,' starring her soon to be husband Song Joong-Ki. It appears strange because she does not appear in the movie. However, she did something beautiful for the filmmakers to credit her.
As reported by website Koreaboo, the ending credits of 'The Battleship Island' contains a message that reads, "Special thanks to... Song Hye Kyo," along with a list of actors. The 'Descendants of the Sun' actress despite not appearing in the movie in an acting capacity sent a coffee cart for the movie crew.
'The Battleship Island' is a fictional drama that is based on the real life events that took place in Hashima Island, when Korea was under Japanese occupation. The movie tells a fictional story of a group of brave workers who attempt to escape the site's forced labour camp for Koreans. The movie will also address the issue of 'comfort women' who were forced into sexual slavery. It is a sensitive issue for Koreans.
In addition to Song Hye-Kyo, the director of the movie Ryu Seung-wan also credited anyone else who supported the production; whose names will be shown following Song Hye-Kyo's. The news of Song Hye-Kyo's receiving credit in a movie starring her future husband Song Joong-Ki, undoubtedly will generate a lot of interest, apart from the historical aspect of the movie which itself is a draw. It was also revealed that the credit giving was decided before the public knew anything about the SongSong couple's plans to get married.
From the trailers, it was also evident that the movie was beautifully photographed. Every frame perfectly depicts the harsh lives of the Korean workers, the dangers they face each moment and they hope they gather, beautifully. One of the most memorable frames is one where the Korean miners all hold up candles towards Song Joong-Ki, who plays a member of the Korean independence movement who infiltrates the island to rescue another independence fighter being held captive there, but becomes a symbol of hope for all the Koreans kept there.
'The Battleship Island' will release on July 26, this year, while Song Hye Kyo will tie the knot with Song Joong-Ki on October 31, this year.
