Song joong-ki recently admitted that he had very little knowledge of the history that inspired his upcoming movie 'Battleship Island.' The actor also shared why he agreed to be part of a multi-star ensemble than choosing a solo lead role. The movie also stars Hwang Jung-min, So Ji-sub and Lee Jung-hyun.

As noted by website Soompi, Song Joong-ki, while promoting 'Battleship Island' in a press conference on June 15, talked about the reason behind his acceptance of a role in the feature. "I was happy to work with director Ryu Seung-wan, whom I respect. I didn't think of things like, 'If I film this production, then I'll be the sole lead.'"

The 'Descendants of the Sun' star added that he wanted to return to acting in a film as soon as he was discharged from the army. It did not happen and he didn't want to pass up on the opportunity to star in this movie. "So, 'Battleship Island' means a lot to me personally," he said.

The actor also revealed the extent to which he became involved in the production of 'Battleship Island.' "'Battleship Island' is a commercial film, so the priority is to create an outstanding production, but I studied a lot about history during the shooting too," adding "I immersed myself fully in the tension and pressure of the film while shooting it."

He also extended his apology of being unaware of Hashima Island's history thus: "I did not know a lot about Battleship Island as a historical landmark. I thought to myself, how little would the children today know about its history if I don't even know about it."

Meanwhile, another interesting incident happened with Song joong-ki. A media outlet had reported on June 15 that former South Korean President Park Geun-hye, had requested a video to be produced featuring Song joong-ki as well as his cutout, for K-Style Hub, a hallyu experience spot, noted Soompi.

A source from Blossom Entertainment, Song Joong-ki's agency, responded on June 16 that they hadn't heard of such a request. "Song Joong Ki was an ambassador for the Korea Tourism Organisation, so he just attended an official event once. We have not heard anything about the video or cutout and do not know about anything [that happened] after the official event," the source clarified.
