There is good news for fans of Lee Dong-wook, especially of his masterful role as a Grim Reaper in tvN drama 'Goblin.' It has been revealed that a new drama from Orion Cinema Network (OCN), will focus entirely on the mythical Grim Reaper figure.

Website Soompi notes that as per an exclusive report from Ilgan Sports, OCN has confirmed their plans for a new drama tentatively titled 'Black,' written by 'God's Gift - 14 Days' screenwriter Choi Ran.

As noted by Soompi, 'Black' deals with a grim reaper, who borrows a human body and eventually falls in love with a woman. However, by falling in love he breaks the divine rules of a Grim Reaper, just like in 'Goblin' and as punishment, he gets erased from everyone's memories. The drama will be styled as a thriller.

The synopsis of 'Black' sounds very similar to the story of the Grim Reaper that appeared in 'Goblin.' Lee Dong-wook's portrayal of a melancholic, lovelorn angel of death was so influential in the tvN drama that viewers were more drawn to the subplot surrounding his character than the main plot about the immortal Goblin played by Gong Yoo.

OCN were probably inspired by the success of 'Goblin' to create their take on the Grim reaper legend. While no actor has been cast in the lead role yet, it's unlikely that Lee Dong-wook will don the Grim Reaper's signature dark suit and hat. However, Dong-wook would be the safest and most obvious choice and will no doubt please the fans of 'Goblin.' After all, he was, writer Kim Eun-sook's first choice for the role.

'Goblin' was extremely popular across Asia as well as in Western nations. So, if the producers of 'Black' decide on lee Dong-wook, they will automatically gain fans of 'Goblin' at their side. However, from a creative perspective, a new actor taking the role will offer a fresh interpretation to the mythical character. Dong-wook playing the Grim Reaper again could lead to typecasting, which is not the best thing to happen to any actor.

Soompi also notes that 'Black' will mark Choi Ran's comeback to screenwriting after three years, following 'Iljimae' and 'God's Gift – 14 Days.' Kim Hong-sun, who directed the 2017 OCN drama 'Voice,' will likely helm this project. 'Black' will air in October, this year following 'Save Me,' revealed an OCN insider.
