Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505) users are in for some great news as the industrious community of Android custom ROM developers have released the Black Friday edition of Android 7.1.1 Resurrection Remix v5.8.0 ROM (Release 5) for the ageing flagship handset. The ROM is now available for testing, thanks to XDA senior member Buff99, who has uploaded the source code and build installation instructions.
This ROM has been the result of joint contributions from RR team, CM team, Omni team and Slim ROMs team. OptCM13/14 and JDCTeam have also been credited for their work in the making of this powerful custom ROM that brings the latest Nougat experience to older Galaxy devices.
The ROM is based on Nougat 7.1.1_r4 build with its basic features inherited from the nightly builds of CyanogenMod 14.1 and previous release of Resurrection Remix from 12 December.
Here are a few things that are confirmed to work and some others that are still under development and/or testing:
Working Features
- All the hardware support issues will be similar to CM14.1 ROM.
- GPS, orientation and accelerometer seem to work as intended, while the GPS Status has got a good fix for indoor navigation.
Non-Working Features
- Theme engine is still under works
- Video Recording is not fully-functional or appears to be broken
- Camera is partly functional with intermittent connecting problems
- Photo Gallery seems to freeze intermittently due to slow media indexing
Interested users can install the latest Nougat-based Resurrection Remix ROM on their Galaxy S4 LTE (GT-I9505) by following the step-by-step guide posted here on Github.
IBTimes SG reminds readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to device during or after the Resurrection Remix custom ROM installation. As this procedure is meant for veterans and developers, users are advised to proceed at their own risk.
We will update the public version of this ROM once the testing phase completes and the download links are available via XDA.
