Unlocked Moto Z users are in for some good news as Motorola has started rolling out the highly-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update for the handset, keeping up its promised release in February. Going by Motorola's earlier proposition, the Moto Z Play and Z Play droid Edition will be joining the Nougat party in March.

It may be recalled that the Moto Z Droid and Z Droid Force from Verizon were being marketed as the exclusive models to receive Android 7.0 as early as November, while the normal unlocked Moto Z sold in the US was left out of contention for the Nougat update. On the contrary, the unlocked Moto Z phones continued receiving Android Nougat in other regions.
It is now confirmed that the unlocked Moto Z users in the US have started receiving the Nougat update as on 4 February. We need to wait and see if Motorola will skip the Android 7.1.1 update and instead embrace the Android 7.1.2 firmware, which is currently under beta testing and development.
