In pursuit of Singapore's goal to establish a national digital identity, all SingPass users will finally get a MyInfo profile by the end of 2017.

GovTech minister-in-charge Janil Puthucheary on Tuesday said MyInfo will help access and fill up online forms for government digital services with less hassle and inconvenience. After providing one's personal details, it will be saved in a digital vault for future reference.

Once SingPass users log into participating government services in the future, their basic personal data will automatically be filled up based on the stored information. Personal data include name, date of birth and NRIC, among others.

"We envision MyInfo to be a key part of our 'Tell Us Once' ecosystem, and we see this as an enabler for our Smart Nation vision," says Janil at the Innovation Labs World conference in Singapore.

However, transactions that will involve personal financial data entail further steps before users can continue with their transactions. Janil says these steps are necessary to secure SingPass users.

"These extra steps will reduce the convenience available, but it is the right thing to do ... to ensure security and trust around the most sensitive issues," stresses Janil.

According to GovTech, the agency has received barely 200,000 applications since MyInfo was made available to the public early in 2016. Currently, it is only available to 24 digital services but will be rolled out to 140 government digital services more.

MyInfo will also expand to more private-owned services on top of the four participating banking institutions in Singapore.
