Alicia Medanin Khan, a Singapore national came to India for liposuction surgery but died in a hospital located in the southern state of Tamil Nadu's Chennai city after the operation on November 9.
The woman, who was weighing 85kg, was admitted to S R Multi Speciality Hospital in Arumbakkam on November 8. Later she was shifted to the post-surgery intensive care unit.
Vijayakumar, the husband of the dead is a businessman in Singapore. He allegedly said that he was not allowed to meet the 35-year-old wife after the surgery and doctors told him that she had to be taken under observation for 24 hours. Later the authority informed him that Khan had died due to a cardiac arrest.
According to reports, Khan had undergone the weight-loss surgery to reduce complications related to her pregnancy.
However, Vijayakumar has filed a complaint of medical negligence against the hospital authority at local police station, as doctors had refused to provide Khan's health details in writing.
"The couple came to Chennai on November 4 and consulted a medical team on November 6, following which Alicia was admitted to the Arumbakkam hospital for the surgery. Subsequently, the victim's husband approached the police commissioner's office to obtain permission to take the body back to Singapore We might advise him to do a post-mortem before taking the body to Singapore. Only after the autopsy report, we will know if there was any medical negligence," the local police said as quoted by The News Minute.
Earlier in this year, a 46-year-old woman had died at a Chennai based private hospital, where she went for weight loss surgery.
