A pipe leak at a construction site in Tampines affected the water supply at the Tampines bus interchange and a nearby food court at Eastlink Mall on Friday. The national water agency PUB said that the pipe leak took place within a construction site at the junction of Tampines Ave 5 and Tampines Central 2.
According to PUB, it was informed about the incident at around 6 am on Friday. In a Facebook post, PUB said that it "immediately" sent service crew and contractors to the site and the repairs were done.
"To facilitate repair works, a 20m stretch of lane at Tampines Central 2 (towards Tampines Hub) is temporarily closed," it added.
However, the authorities said that alternative water supply was being provided to affected businesses. In addition to this, the PUB workers were also present with water bags and wagons at the site.
Later, PUB said in an update at 4.15 pm that the operations to draw water from other unaffected pipes have "normalised water supply to customers who had earlier experienced poor pressure".
This latest pipe leakage is at least the third major pipe leak in recent weeks. On Oct 1, a water pipe burst near a car park in Bukit Batok East Ave 3, sending jets of water shooting up into the air.
In September, a burst pipe in Bukit Batok West resulted into a "fountain" of water that shot up to three storeys high. Again in another incident, a pipe burst nearby in Bukit Batok East caused a jet of water to go up to four storeys high. There have been several reports of pipe leaks in the Serangoon and Tanjong Katong areas as well.
