Singapore Airlines (SIA) has signed a codeshare agreement with Latin-American carrier Avianca, expanding its partner airlines from across the globe.
The new agreement, which will take effect starting September this year, will enable SIA passengers and customers to have wider connections to Bogotá, Colombia, which is Avianca's major hub location.
Under the deal, SIA will add its 'SQ' designator code to Avianca-operated flights from its European gateways at Barcelona and London to Bogotá. Consequently, Avianca will append its 'AV' designator code to SIA-operated flights between Singapore and both Barcelona and London.
The codeshare flights will be progressively available for sale across all channels on the two airlines.
SIA Senior Vice President Marketing Planning Tan Kai Ping said this new agreement with Avianca provides the group's customers with connections to the Colombian centre.
"It is another example of our commitment to continuously expand our network to offer customers greater accessibility and travel options," he said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Avianca Managing Director Juan Ricardo Castillo stated that the deal expands the airline's route network.
Avianca is Star Alliance partner. To recall, Star Alliance is the world's largest global airline alliance headquartered in Germany.
"The signing of this codeshare agreement with Singapore Airlines, allows us to expand our route network and to offer our customers an even broader connection with the world while maintaining excellent standards of service," Castillo said.
Recently, SIA also signed an agreement with Eurowings, giving its passengers access to several routes to Europe.
