Nintendo's latest gaming console, the Nintendo Switch is selling like hot cake. The hybrid video game machine is an instant hit with consumers, as evidenced from the product going out-of-stock at Wal-Mart and Target stores across America.
The Nintendo Switch's popularity may be due to the great line up of games it offers. The fact that it works as both a living room console and a hand-held device also helps it fly off the shelves.
The unprecedented surge in its demand is making it difficult for buyers to get their hands on one of the hottest selling gadgets of this year. Nintendo is just not producing enough units to meet demand.
Nintendo products and scarcity still go hand in hand. With the holiday season just around the corner, Nintendo is reportedly ramping up production. The official word is that Nintendo would ship 10 million units by the next fiscal.
Sources close to the development told The Wall Street Journal that in order to meet the high demand Nintendo is looking to ship 18 million console units by the holiday season instead.
In a statement to The Wall Street Journal Nintendo said, " We're doing everything we can to make sure everyone who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch system can do so. We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast".
