wifi

Researchers at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherland, have a great news for the netizens. Apparently, they have created a new infrared-based wi-fi system that offers superb lightning speed of 42.8GB per second. Yes, you read that right and it's 100 times faster than the existing speed of wi-fi networks.

New system, known as "Li-Fi" uses the central light antennas to beam the rays of different wavelengths to wireless devices. Since it relies only on light rays supplied by an optical fiber with no movable parts, it can be called as maintenance free system with no power requirements, say the researchers.

This new system is capable of making your network more secure and the best part is it will never be jammed by other networking devices.

The light antennas in this "Li-Fi" have a pair of gratings, which emits the light rays of different wavelengths at different angles. So, if your smartphone is out of the light antenna's line of sight, another light antenna takes over.

It has also been reported that this network can track down the locations of all the devices that use its radio signal transmitted in the return direction.

According to the researchers, this technique is harmless because a safe infrared wavelength is used, which does not affect one's eyesight.

It has so far only downloaded the data using the light rays, whereas uploads are done using radio signals. "Li-Fi" may hit the stores in just five years, said the researchers.
