Nokia 8, expected to be the most expensive of its kind so far, is reported to be launched at the end of the month, a German publication reveals. The next-generation smartphone could be sporting a central processor that high-end phones like Samsung's Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.

HMD Global, the exclusive manufacturer of Nokia phones, should now be gearing up for the upcoming Nokia 8 release to fall on 31 July as reported by WinFuture. The Nokia 8 in question comes with the model number TA-1004 with a hefty price tag starting at US$675.

Nokia 8 is sporting Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 central processor, which is used by leading smartphone manufacturers like Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Sony. Apart from the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, some other phones using a Snapdragon 835 variant include Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Xiaomi Mi 6, HTC U11, OnePlus 5, and ZTE Nubia Z17, among many others. Snapdragon 835 is the first 10-nanometer chip that is capable of supporting up to 4K video resolution, 32-megapixel camera, optimum virtual reality performance, and less battery consumption.

According to previous leaks, internal Nokia 8 specifications are packed with leading technologies, including 4 gigabytes of RAM and 64 gigabytes of internal storage. Variants to be released in Europe are touted to have dual-SIM card slots.

The display is clocked at 5.7 inches with 2,560 x 1440 pixels. It has a dual-camera setup with 13 megapixels each. In terms of options, the Nokia 8 will come in four colour variants: Blue, Steel, Gold/Blue, and Gold/Copper.

The publication, however, noted that the reported model could also be the Nokia 9 as it is also due for release in the second quarter of the year. Regardless, HMD Global is finally entering the high-end smartphone fray either with Nokia 8 or Nokia 9.

Recently, HMD Global announced its partnership with premium optics technology provider ZEISS to deliver a "complete imaging experience." There are no hints as of now whether Nokia 8 will be sporting a ZEISS-made camera lens.
