Apple iPhone fans are in for some exciting news as KGI Securities Analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo, has released a fresh report revealing the key feature changes in iPhone 7, ahead of its impending launch on 7 September. Kuo has shared some yet undisclosed iPhone 7 features in his latest leak including a faster 2.4GHz processor chip, LED flash light with improved 12MP dual-cameras, IPX7 water-proof capability, new Force Touch sensor and the handset availability in five new colours.
Here are the key feature highlights of iPhone 7 as reported by the KGI Securities Analyst to 9to5Mac:
2.4GHz processor: It will be based on the A10 chip from TSMC which can reach top clock speed of up to 2.4 to 2.45GHz. The stock configuration could be underclocked a bit to overcome heat and power-consumption concerns.
Display: The forthcoming iPhone's 4.7in and 5.5in displays are expected to borrow the wide colour technology from the 9.7in iPad Pro.
Storage and RAM: Both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be available in three storage configurations namely 32GB, 128GB and 256GB. The former will support just 2GB of RAM while the latter gets 3GB RAM upgrade.
Camera and Flash: The 12MP dual cameras (rear) on the iPhone 7 are likely to equip four LEDs (two cool and two warm) and a new ambient light sensor for enhanced image quality.
IPX7 Water Proofing: Apple's upcoming flagship handset will feature state-of-the-art IPX7 water-proof capability, which enables the device survive water-splashes, showering, and dips in water levels up to 1 metre in depth.
Home Button: The iPhone 7 will incorporate a pressure-sensitive click-less home button with water-resistance capability and support for Haptic Feedback.
Headphone jack: Both the iPhone 7 variants are likely to ship with Lightning Earpods and a Lightning to 3.5mm jack adapter replacing the traditional headphone jack.
Speakers: Contrary to earlier rumours suggesting the addition of a second speaker in the place of headphone jack for stereo effect, the iPhone 7 is now expected to incorporate a new audio amplifier that can make your earpiece receiver function like a speaker.
Proximity Sensor: Apple is expected to upgrade its existing proximity sensor from LED to laser for quicker response, improved gesture detection and greater recognition distance.
FeliCa: Apple is widely speculated to introduce support for FeliCa, Sony's mobile tap-to-pay standard, for its iPhones in Japan.
Colour: iPhone 7 is expected to ship in five vibrant colours including gold, silver, rose gold, dark black and glossy piano-black.
According to Kuo, the iPhone 7 shipments are expected to be lower than its predecessor (iPhone 6s) at 60-65 million as opposed to previous year's 82 million for the 6s on the production front. The lower assembly yields for the iPhone 7 may be attributed to the creation of water-resistance capability on these units.
