Justice Lee Seiu Kin, a Judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore has been awarded one of the seven Meritorious Service medals this year for his incredible technological contributions to the legal sector.
The 63-year-old Supre Court Judge had begun his career as the State Counsel at the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) in 1987, after getting a degree of Masters of Laws from the University of Cambridge. He had studied law at the National University of Singapore. He rose through the ranks in AGC and soon became the Senior State Counsel in 1994 and retained the position till 1997.
In 1989, Justice Lee Seiu Kin supervised and oversaw the computerization of the AGC as the director of the computer information systems department. Later, he took the charge of the project director of LawNet, an information portal for the legal community. He became Second Solicitor-General in 2002.
He was appointed as the Judicial Commissioner in 1997 and then as a judge in 2006.
Right now, Justice Lee heads the One Judiciary (IT) Steering Committee in Singapore, which charts the implementation of technology in the courts. He also heads the Legal Technology Cluster of Singapore Academy of Law (SAL).
"I was deeply humbled and honored" to receive the award, he told the Straits Times in an interview and also thanked his colleagues at the judiciary, Legal Service Commission and the SAL.
He also mentioned that his efforts to incorporate and properly implement technology in the work processes of the Government and judiciary has received generous support from the Attorney-General and Chief Justice in the past and continue to do so in the present as well.
"I have also been blessed with dedicated and talented colleagues who have helped to translate our visions into reality in those areas," he said.
