With its September 12 launch date fast approaching, all eyes will be on the iPhone 8. The expectations are high. However, there is sad news for those of you who were expecting the iPhone 8 to come with an on-screen fingerprint sensor.
The Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 was said to feature an on-screen fingerprint sensor before leaked images showed a completely different fingerprint sensor set-up. Maybe it was too early for Samsung to implement the most interesting security feature till date. Samsung just couldn't perfect the on-screen fingerprint sensor technology just in time for the Note 8 launch. Disappointed fans thought, if Samsung couldn't bring the on-screen fingerprint sensor, maybe Apple can.
The iPhone 8 is said to bring a lot of features that will revolutionize smartphones. The on-screen fingerprint sensor unfortunately, is not one of them.
AppleInsider revealed information on a patent filed by the Cupertino based company that shows the company is now working on perfecting the technology of on-screen fingerprint sensor.
While Apple has almost mastered the technology, the iPhone 8, which is also Apple's 10th-anniversary edition, will be giving the much-awaited feature a miss, as per a Forbes report. To make up for this, Apple has doubled up its facial ID recognition system, dropping Touch ID entirely.
Hopefully, enthusiasts can expect on-screen fingerprint readers to roll out with Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S9 or Note 9 flagships in early 2018, or with Apple's next iPhone, a Plus model which is expected to come with a 6.46-inch display.
