Apple has just provided the tech space a sneak peek to what it calls the most powerful Mac ever made, the iMac Pro. The company takes pride in iMac Pro as it is entirely made of high-end and ground-breaking components—from the display down to the processor. With a whopping US$4,999 price tag, Apple aims to deliver a premium performance with the device.

Powerful performance, gorgeous design

iMac Pro is built on Intel's next-generation 18-core Xeon, a powerful processor designed for heavy workflows. With its new thermal design, the device has a more efficient cooling capacity without getting away from similar thin iMac build. The 27-inch Retina 5K display that supports one billion colours makes the device gorgeous as ever.

Apple's vice president of Hardware Engineering John Ternus says, "This will be our fastest and most powerful Mac ever, which brings workstation-class computing to iMac for the first time".

Most cutting-edge graphics

Apple is using the most cutting-edge graphics in Macs. The new Radeon Pro Vega can deliver up to 11 teraflops of single-precision compute power for real-time 3D rendering and high frame rate virtual reality. This is made possible by the graphics processor's new advanced compute core and up to 16 gigabytes of high-bandwidth memory.

"We reengineered the whole system and designed an entirely new thermal architecture to pack extraordinary performance into the elegant, quiet iMac enclosure our customers love—iMac Pro is a huge step forward and there's never been anything like it", notes Ternus.

Advanced storage

iMac Pro supports up to 4 terabytes of solid-state drive and 128 gigabytes of error-correcting code memory. It has four Thunderbolt 3 ports that can simultaneously support a maximum of two RAIDs and two 5K display. The device feature 10 gigabits Ethernet which means it can accommodate a networking that is 10 times faster than the base rate.

Price

As announced yesterday at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Jose, California, iMac Pro will begin to be shipped in December in the US for US$4,999.
