High-end smartphones today are so advanced they can easily replace our point and shoot cameras. Many point and shoot cameras don't even feature 4K video recording, but flagships from 2015 have it.
In 2016, almost every maker seems to be experimenting with the camera to offer something better than others. Huawei has tied up with Leica for its latest flagship. If you are a follower of cameras, you probably know Leica is a big name. The Huawei P9 is the brainchild of Huawei and Leica. Huawei is talking only about the camera on P9 and nothing else. The company wants camera and photography enthusiasts talking about P9.
The Huawei P9 has a dual lens setup. The last phone to have such a setup was HTC M9 Plus. Fast forward to 2016 and welcome the two 12MP sensors on P9. One of them takes a photo in monochromatic, while the other phone takes the same photo in RGB. Huawei claims this kind of setup allows P9 to have more details along with rich colours. The hybrid focus system makes use of laser, depth calculation and contrast. While this is what you will see outside, it's backed by the equally powerful hardware inside. Huawei's custom Kirin 955 SoC has a dual core ISP that will take care of taking the pictures and focusing while the dedicated DSP will polish the photos before you see them on the screen.
The phone looks attractive as well. Everything is packed inside a metal unibody and there will also be a ceramic variant. It sports a fingerprint scanner on the back and features a 2.5D curved glass on the display. The P9 gets a 5.2-inch FullHD display while the P9 Plus will have 5.5 inch Press Touch display (similar to iPhone 6s). That's not the only difference as the P9 Plus will have a bigger 3,400 mAh battery with Rapid charge compared to P9's 3,000 mAh battery.
The P9 will come in two RAM variants: 3GB+32GB for US$685 and 4GB+64GB for US$740. The P9 Plus will cost $855 for 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It will hit stores on April 16.
