Do you believe in extraterrestrial beings like the very wise master Yoda or the loving Chewbacca? If yes, then you belong to that group of 47% earthlings, who believe in aliens and that we will one day establish contact with them. A recent survey, which has been conducted across 24 nations of the world, revealed the fact that half of the humanity thinks aliens are nothing but a hoax.

Since the newest "Star Wars" movie "The Last Jedi" is releasing on December 13, researchers wanted to conduct a survey to explain the incomparable love and fame that the franchise has been getting from the audience even after 40 years from the release of its first movie. The survey unearthed that among over 26,000 respondents, 47% believe "in the existence of intelligent alien civilizations in the universe," reported Reuters.

When asked if the respondents think that "some form of life" exists on the distant planets, 61% nodded in affirmation, while around a quarter of them stated that they don't believe that extraterrestrial beings exist beyond our home planet, said the researchers from Glocalities.

Among the ones who believe there are aliens in the universe, 60% said that they think we should keep trying to establish contact with our extraterrestrial neighbours.

Surveys, such as these, related to aliens and extraterrestrial intelligent civilizations, have found similar results in countries like the United States, Germany and Britain. However, this latest survey was the largest of its kind since it included 24 countries of the world.

"The high score on the belief in the existence of intelligent alien civilizations and the distinct profile of these people partly explains the immense popularity of space movies such as Star Wars.People who believe in the existence of intelligent alien civilizations are not a marginal minority," said the research director Martijn Lampert.
