Take-Two Interactive has just acquired Squad's Kerbal Space Program game, a humble space-flight simulator. The developers behind the title revealed that it is currently working on its expansion.

Take-Two is the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2k Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto and NBA 2K series, respectively. Take-Two has now the rights to Kerbal Space Program, a game first developed by Mexican developer Squad.

According to Kerbal's website, the acquisition does not mean there will be a tonne of changes. The KSP team will still be working for the game alongside the more experienced publisher for future updates.

"Now we are fortunate enough to do so with the help of an experienced publisher like Take-Two, and we couldn't be more excited and happy to see where our conjoint collaboration will take KSP forward", states KSP in a blog post.

At the moment, the team is busy working with the Making History Expansion. The post underscored that there will be a free downloadable content for copies of the game purchased through April 2013, as promised.

Kerbal Space Program will soon be available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One once the updated version is ready for release. The game's core gameplay allows players to design and launch their spaceships, landers, and rovers. This is done either in sandbox mode or during a string of quests.

As of now, over 1.7 million copies of Kerbal Space Program have been sold on Steam. It has notable fans from NASA and even SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is a huge fan. The team also disclosed that Take-Two is a fan of the title and it has been "persistently knocking on our door trying to work with us for a long time".

Kerbal Space Program was first released in 2011 as an unfinished game. It became a part of Steam's Early Access for incomplete projects.in 2015, it released the first updated version.
