dislike

Looks like the ever increasing demand for introducing a 'dislike'' button is finally getting some answer from the Facebook head quarters. The social media giant is finally introducing the 'dislike' button, although, it is not where you were actually aiming to apply it but it's a little bit progress, nonetheless.

Recently, TechCrunch informed that, thanks to one of their users, they got the tip that now when you are going through the messages that your friends have sent in a chat thread, you are being given the option to press the emoji button and attach a little thumbs-up for like, thumbs-down for dislike to express your views on the statement made.

Facebook vetoed this finding when TechCrunch asked them about this new feature saying, "We're always testing ways to make Messenger more fun and engaging. This is a small test where we enable people to share an emoji that best represents their feelings on a message."

Facebook had rolled out 'emotions' almost a year back comprising of, a set of six emojis alongside the original thumbs-up to let users show their emotions with love, laughter, happiness, shock, sadness and anger emojis.

Previously, Facebook has shied away from providing 'dislike' feature in their social media platform, even though it has been the most requested feature, citing that it may spread too much negativity among the users. Even though people are taking it for what it looks like i.e., a 'dislike' button, Facebook still maintains that this is more of a 'no' button instead of a disliking option.

Furthermore, explanation follows citing that since people tend to use Facebook Messenger for planning and coordination, therefore, giving a Yes/No option makes sense to offer a quick poll to see if a certain decision is agreed or disagreed upon by most of the participants in that particular group chat.
