Android Pay is finally making its way to Asia with its initial launch in Singapore as resident Android smartphone users can now make cashless transactions using their Google wallet account. Although this feature has been available in select countries across the globe starting with its debut launch in the UK, India and other Asian countries are yet to taste the electronic mode of payment with Android Pay.
During its initial launch, Android Pay is likely to see its debut with MasterCard and Visa cards from BS, OCBC Bank, UOB, POSB and Standard Chartered Bank, according to Google's Asia Pacific Blog.
Apart from these banks, the Near Field Communications (NFC) based mode of payment will be supported across retail locations including StarHub, Watsons, BreadTalk, Toast Box, Uniqlo, Cold Storage and NTUC FairPrice.
The new Android Pay service is being embraced by American chain of restaurants including McDonald's, Subway and American giants 7-11. Android users in Australia are also expected to see the launch of Android Pay sometime later this year.
