The BMW 8 Series was discontinued by the company after being in production for around a decade in 1999. Since then there have been demands the return of the series. Now, it has been finally confirmed by the company that the production of a new 8 Series will begin in 2018 in Germany. A convertible variant of the same is slated to arrive in 2019, reported CTV News.
The concept of the new 8 Series was unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in May this year. Today the coup is considered to be one of the most daring and intriguing models that the German luxury carmaking company has ever produced.
Production of the new 8 Series models will be carried out at BMW's Dingolfing plant in southern German. It;s the same plant where the automaker's 3 to 7 Series models are built. The current annual production record of this plant stands at 369,000 and the record is expected to be broken this year, says the publication.

The new BMW 8 Series will be available for sale in Europe and the United States as a coup next year and the convertible variant will arrive the same regions in 2019.
In May, BMW CEO Harald Krueger told the shareholders at the company's annual meeting that the new 8 series will become the flagship model and it will lead BMW's renewed focus on high-margin, high-end luxury cars, in place of the more affordable but less profitable compact models, states the report.
