Overview

Jan O Jorgensen has been one of the consistent Men's singles shuttlers in the 2016 season. Despite suffering a setback at the Rio Olympics, in which he was ousted in the first round, the Danish shuttler has been making his mark in the Superseries tournaments and eventually entered the Dubai Superseries Finals 2016 as the top-seeded shuttler.

The world number three, who hit peak form just before the start of the year-ending tournament with a win at China Open and finishing runner-up at Hong Kong, started his campaign in Dubai decimating Taiwan's Hu Yun 21-8, 21-5 and went on to defeat Germany's Marc Zwiebler in straight games as well.

However, after pocketing the semi-final berth, Jorgensen came up with an ordinary performance in his third group game against China's Tian Houwei as he lost the battle 16-21, 20-22 in just 35 minutes.

On Saturday, Jorgensen will once again face Houwei but this time in the all-important first semi-final of the ongoing tournament. The Danish shuttler has the upperhand when it comes to head-to-head records over his opponent.

In eight meetings so far, the top seed has won six, including five on the trot before his loss on Friday. It was the Dane who got the better of the world number seven in last year's Superseries Finals as well.

For Houwei, who has struggled without a Superseries title this season, it will be a test of his ability to prevail in big-match conditions. However, in the ongoing tournament, the world number six has played with a renewed vigour. He is the only Men's singles player to have remained unbeaten in the group stages and has even gone past his biggest hurdle - Jorgensen, against whom he has lost thrice in 2016.

There is a chance of an all-Danish final on Sunday if both Jorgensen and Viktor Axelsen, who will be facing Son Wan Ho in the second semi-final, emerge successful.
