Overview

Indonesia made the most of the favourable conditions at home in the final first leg of the ongoing tournament by handing five-time champions Thailand their first defeat of the tournament on 14 December.

The Garudas started the home leg with aggression but top-scorer of the tournament Teerasil Dangda made sure Thailand had the lead in the first half. However, the hosts came back strong after Rizki Pora netted the equaliser in the 65th minute of the game. Five minutes later, Hansamu Pratana scored the winner, much to the delight of the massive crowd in Bogor.

It was a solid comeback from Indonesia, who were spurred on by their passionate supporters. However, Alfred Riedl's men will have to prepared to have a taste of their own medicine in Bangkok on Saturday. They will also be missing key midfielder Andik Vermansyah, who suffered a thigh injury on Wednesday.

Notably, Thailand have been impressive at home in their last two outings, which a 2-2 draw against Asian champions Australia in the Fifa World Cup qualifying clash and 4-0 thrashing of Myanmar in the semi-final second leg.

Kiatisuk Senamuang's side have been pushed on the back foot for the first time in the tournament and it will be interesting to see how they react to the setback in a high-octane encounter. The presence of in-form Teerasil, Chanathip Songkrasin and Sarawut Masuk, who have been getting the goals for the hosts, should add to the side's confidence.

Indonesia cannot afford to park the bus and rely on the one-goal advantage as Teerasil struck an important away goal for Thailand. It will be tactical test as well for Riedl and his men when they step on the turf in pursuit of their maiden Suzuki Cup title.
