A Singaporean man is feared to have drowned after falling into the river while kayaking with his friends on Sungai Tesong in Perak, Malaysia.
The Fire and Rescue Department said the man, who has been identified as Koh Kah Wei, was kayaking when his kayak hit a driftwood and overturned. A spokesman from the department said a distress call was received on Saturday at about 4.50pm.
"The victim, Koh Kah Wei, 30, is said to have fallen into the water during the activity. We have conducted a surface search near at the area where the victim fell as well as on the riverbank," the spokesman told Asia One.
A team of 30 members was conducting a surface search at three sites. The spokesman also added that the water level at the river had risen due to heavy rain. The search resumed on Sunday morning after being called off on Saturday night due to swift currents, heavy rain and fading light.
