A group of doctors from China's Sichuan Province launched a week-long free health campaign for local people in Nepal beginning from Sunday, Dec 10.

The team from China said that the health campaign would start from Monday from Dhulikhel village, located 30 km away from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, said Xinhua news agency.

The 20-member delegation, led by He Guangxian, deputy inspector of Sichuan provincial foreign affairs office, comprised 17 doctors. The team is basically focusing on providing medical services on orthopedics, diabetes, hypertension, and respiratory diseases among local people.

"We are dedicated to supporting the health of Nepali people and their happiness through our medical camps. We will also hold interaction with local health workers and share our skills and experiences," said a member of the team during the opening of the health campaign.

This is not the first time the Sichuan medical team had supported the Himalayan nation. Previously, they had provided free medical services to the Nepalese during the 2015 earthquake at Barpak, in which nearly 9,000 people had been killed.

Deputy Chief of Mission at Chinese Embassy in Nepal Yangoug Shichao said the week-long free health campaign would benefit the Nepalese who have less or no access to medical treatment.

"The medical team is here to relieve suffering and pains of people. The team will not just help the patients but will also deliver the message of China's aid," said Yang Shichao.

The health campaign would be organized in five places covering four districts, including Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchowk. To date, these places are basically supported by Nepali organisation Arniko Society.

"I appreciate the assistance of Sichuan Province to improve the health of the Nepali people. I also look forward to the affiliation between hospitals of Sichuan and Nepal," said Mayor of Dehulikhel Ashok Byanju Shrestha.
