A 43-year-old passenger was killed and 14 more people were wounded on Wednesday after a Five Stars express bus collided with two lorries on North-South Expressway near Gopeng, Perak in Malaysia. The police has confirmed that the bus driver has been arrested.
The police said that the collision involving a double-decker bus, a container lorry and another lorry transporting paper took place at around 5.45 am. The authorities added that the deceased passenger, who has been identified as Chan Kwai Fah, was among 13 passengers in the bus.
The preliminary investigations revealed that the double-decker bus, which was travelling from Singapore towards Ipoh, hit the back of the trailer transporting paper. Meanwhile, the container lorry that was exactly behind the bus couldn't stop on time and crashed into the rear of the bus.
The police said that the driver of the container lorry, who was admitted to the "red zone" at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's emergency department, is in critical condition and is still unconscious. The bus driver and the driver of the other lorry have suffered minor injuries.
A total of 11 bus passengers, including a 3-year-old girl, were also suffering from minor injuries and have been taken to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment. However, one passenger was uninjured.
According to police data, 12 of the 13 passengers, including the deceased, have listed their official address as Perak. However, one of the passenger's address was still not known.
The data also showed that the drivers of the container lorry and the bus also live in Perak, while the other lorry driver's address was listed as Penang.
