There is no doubt that Singapore has one of the best culinary destinations for exploration. Singapore's status as a world-class dining destination recently got a new twist with Michelin's new Singapore guide featuring 29 of the city's top dining places including two street vendors.
Following this, Singapore's Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice & Noodle has become the world's cheapest place to have a Michelin-star meal. Yes, the iconic Chan Hon Meng's chicken rice dish is priced at just S$2 ($1.42).
According to CNN, in 2016, the humble hawker stall collaborated with Hersing Culinary to open Liao Fan Hawker Chan. It is a casual dine place located few meters away from his street-side Chinatown Complex Market & Food Centre stall. Post the release of Michelin guide, Meng has become an overnight star with worldwide fame and high customer demand. His new, quick dine-in place is to tackle the flooding demand. The new set-up can accommodate 80 diners with facility for take-out services.
In an interview with CNN, the Malaysian-born chef revealed that he had no idea about the Michelin guide until his stall appeared on the list. CNN described: "On Hawker Chan's second soft-opening day, an ever-growing line of tourists and locals spilling out of the restaurant and onto the sidewalk almost mirrored that of the stall, where people wait for several hours to experience his famous fare."
One key highlight of the Meng's place is that the man himself is indulged in cooking and supervising the restaurant. The place is a value for money spot with many lip-smacking cuisines to entertain the culinary taste buds.
