World Earth Day is celebrated annually by the people all across the world on 22nd of April in order to increase the awareness among people about the environment safety as well as to demonstrate the environmental protection measures. The very first event for Earth Day, which was held in America nearly five decades ago, in the year 1970 following a devastating oil spill, is credited as the beginning of the modern environmental movement. This year the theme of World Earth Day is "Environmental and Climate Literacy".
Our Earth is probably the only planet in the Universe where life has been possible till date. The Earth Day has been marked to make the human race get aware about the importance of their planet. According to reports, the day has its own flag, created by US peace activist John McConnell. On this day, people do outdoor activities related to the earth safety such as planting new trees, picking up roadside waste materials, recycling of wastes, energy conservation and others.
