At least 13 motorcycles were destroyed on Saturday at Terminal 1 of Seremban's main bus station in Malaysia due to fire. The Star reported that the Malaysian police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the fire.
A police spokesman told the Malaysian media that they have not ruled out arson as the cause of the fire. He added that they were still assessing the damage caused by the fire. The authorities are investigating the incident as a case of mischief by fire.
A video footage that was posted on the Malaysian newspaper's website showed thick smoke emanating from the third floor of the terminal. A Fire and Rescue Services Department spokesman confirmed the fire to have originated from the building's motorcycle parking area.
"Preliminary investigations revealed that more than 13 motorcycles were destroyed,' the spokesman told The Star.
According to the report, a number of commuters park their motorcycles at the upper levels of the terminal, where parking lots may be found, to continue their commute by public transport.
The Malaysian authorities have already cordoned off the area to facilitate further investigations. Under Malaysian law, if a person is convicted of causing mischief by fire, he can be jailed for up to 14 years along with a fine.
