A Thai transsexual Facebook idol was criticized by Myanmar Facebook users for wearing "too revealing" dress when she visited the Shwedagon Pagoda, which is considered to be sacred by Myanmar people.
Nisamanee Lertvorapong posted the photos from her visit to the pagoda on her Facebook page, which has over 700,000 followers. In the pictures, she was seen dressed up in a Thai costume modified to be strapless-like and with high slit at the bottom, that revealed a lot.
When Nisamanee visited the pagoda, she also made a Facebook Live from there and spoke about the temple. During the live session, she made comments that the pagoda was made of gold robbed from Thailand during the Ayutthaya period. Her images and comments triggered uproar among the Facebook users.
According to the users, they always dress properly when they visit Temple Emerald Buddha in order to show respect to the place. Reports said Nisamanee's comment about the gold robbery during the Ayutthaya period has even caused rifts between the people from the two countries.
Following the ire, Nisamanee issued an apology on her Facebook wall. She accepted her mistake and said that she didn't realize the differences of cultures of the two people. She also added that she had no intension of causing rifts.
"I would like to issue my apology to Myanamar and its people for what I have done," Nisamanee wrote on her Facebook page.
Referring to her dress, Nisamanee said she did not realize that her dress was not proper for the visit as she was allowed inside the pagoda and no one stopped her from entering the temple.
