A 19-year-old full-time National Serviceman was sentenced to two-year probation for punching his mother with a knuckle duster. The convict Rajen Zulueta Rajenthiran has punched his mother complaining that she nagged him continuously.
Apart from the probation, Rajen should also perform 140 hours of compulsory social service, and his parents should deposit a bond amount of $5000 to ensure his good behavior.
According to a Straits Times report, Rajen pleaded guilty on charges of assault and the usage of an offensive instrument.
During the hearing, Peter Fernand, Rajen's lawyer said that his client is extremely remorseful for the action he committed. Fernando pleaded the court to give Rajen a chance to improve himself as an individual and to prove his family that he is not a lost cause.
Details of the incident
The incident happened on June 27 when Rajen reached the home late night with his girlfriend. Rajen's mother Amelia who works as a patient care assistant was literally unhappy to see his son coming in the midnight to home accompanying a girl. Amelia followed Rajen and his girlfriend to the bedroom and nagged at him.
Continous harassment from Amelia irked Rajen, and he asked his mother to leave the room. The young man warned his mother that he will punch her if she decides to stay in the room. As Amelia continued to stay in Rajen's bedroom, he punched her once on her arm. Later, he took a knuckle duster and punched heavily on her arm.
Amelia made a Police report on the same day at 01.30 AM. Later, she consulted medical advice from Khoo Teck Puat Hospital where doctors found a bruise on her left arm.
