Overview

Sydney Thunder's campaign had a horrid start as the defending champions lost four matches on the trot and slipped to the last spot, from where they have not recovered yet.

However, Shane Watson's team have won back-to-back matches to give themselves a slim chance of making the semi-final in the ongoing season. Their first win came against heavyweights Melbourne Stars when England import Eoin Morgan helped the team gun down a 167-run target with a last-ball six. Skipper Watson starred against Hobart Hurricanes in their last outing with a 31-ball 55 to take them past the line.

The Thunder are heading into Saturday's clash after having a six-day break, which would have provided them the much-needed time to reassess their campaign. After the departure of Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell, they brought in James Vince and Carlos Brathwaite as replacements.

They showed glimpses of what is to come from them in their clash against Hobart. Watson's combination with Vince will be key while all-rounder Brathwaite can provide the much-needed firepower in the end overs.

On the other hand, a win on Sunday for the Sydney Sixers will guarantee them a spot in the semi-final. They shrugged off the memories of their humiliating 48-run defeat to Adelaide Strikers with a solid win in their previous outing against Melbourne Renegades.

The addition of Nathan Lyon, Jackson Bird and Colin Munro, who have returned from international duty, has boosted the side, who are well-placed to go the distance in the ongoing season. Sean Abbott has been a solid contributor with the ball and his combination with Ben Dwarshuis and Bird will be a key factor to their chances on Saturday.

With a strong batting unit at their disposal, the Sixers will be hoping to take the game away from the Thunder with a strong display and seal the spot in the last-four as early as today.
