Singapore Selection will take on Selangor Selection in the 2017 Sultan of Selangor Cup (SOS) main match at the National Stadium on Saturday.

The showpiece fixture between the two sides will be preceded by the regular SOS Cup tie between Singapore Veterans and Selangor Veterans. However, a new addition - "Singapore-Selangor Schools Challenge Cup" will also be staged at the National Stadium where Singapore Sports School's U16 side will play before the veterans match.

With the Singapore Selection side winning last year's main match held on the other side of Causeway, Irfan Fandi-coached side will be motivated to win the fixture this year in front of fans at home as the prestigious SOS Cup returns to Singapore for the first time since 2009.

The Singapore Selection side is a star-studded 21-man unit filled with superstars from all S.League teams, except Brunei DPMM. Despite Home United's top-scorer Stipe Plazibat pulling out with a calf injury, the hosts have the likes of Geylang International's Gabriel Quak, Home United's Faris Ramli and Khairul Nizam and Tampines Rovers' Khairul Amri to provide the goods at the front.

In-form Singapore captan Shahril Ishak and vice-captain Hariss Harun are also part of the team, which will have Hassan Sunny between the sticks. Focus will also be on youngsters, notably Irfan Fandi as the Home United defender will be keen on showcasing his skills for the team, coached by his father.

On the other hand, PKNS, who are replacing Selangor as the state's representative in SOS Cup this year, have remained without a win in their last eight games in all competitions. E Elavarasan's team have slipped to ninth spot in the 12-team Malaysian Super League and were also knocked out of FA Cup after loss to Melaka United in February.

Despite the likes of having former Malaysia internationals Safee Sali, Khyril Muhymeen and import Patrick Wleh, PKNS are likely to face an uphill task on the big night at the National Stadium against the home side.
