Overview
South Korea host Uzbekistan in the fifth round match of Asian qualifying Group A for the 2018 Fifa World Cup at Seoul World Cup Stadium on 15 November.
The hosts are heading into the match after a 2-0 win over Canada on Friday. Goals from Kim Bo Kyung and Lee Jeong Hyeop in the first half gave South Korea the upper hand in a match, that was dominated by the Asian team.
At home, the South Koreans have had positive results in the qualifying tournament so far as they have won the two games played against China and Qatar. However, they were made to work hard on both the occasions as they conceded four goals over the two clashes.
After securing seven points from four games, the Taeguk Warriors are placed third in Group A behind leaders Iran and second-placed Uzbekistan. Notably, their only loss in the ongoing tournament game against the Iranian side in October.
South Korea would definitely want to use their winning momentum to tame another side at home on Wednesday. A win would see them finish the year among the top two spots, with five more games to play in the group to seal the berth to Russia.
However, Uzbekistan will pose a difficult challenge to the hosts. The White Wolves have been solid at the back and have only conceded one goal, a decisive one against leaders Iran in October, in the ongoing tournament.
It will be a challenge for South Korea to overcome Uzbekistan's defensive discipline, which was once again at display during their 1-0 win over Jordan on Thursday.
At the same time, the visitors will also look to improve their goal-scoring record against the hosts, who have leaked goals at home so far.
