Overview

Son Wan Ho takes on Qiao Bin in the final of the 2016 Korea Open Super Series at the SK Handball Stadium in Seoul on 2 October.

South Korea's Wan Ho will be the local favourite on Sunday against his Chinese opponent, whom he meets only the second time after his win in 2015 Korean Masters tournament.

Wan Ho had a smooth sail in the tournament until he met compatriot Lee Hyun II in the semi-final on Saturday. After winning the first game 21-13, the right-hander conceded the second set 14-21 against his 20th-ranked opponent.

However, the 28-year-old came back to clinch the third game 21-10 with ease. Wan Ho, who reached the semi-final of the 2016 Japan Open, started his Korea Open campaign on a high with a straight games win against China's Yuqi Shi.

In the second round, it was India's Sai Praneeth who lost against the South Korean shuttler. Another dominant display in the quarter-final against Denmark's Hans-Kristian Vittinghus made sure Wan Ho booked his slot in the final.

On the other hand, Qiao has been in rampant form as he has not dropped a game en route to the final in the ongoing tournament.

The Chinese shuttler though was tested in the last-four by Hong Kong's Wong Wing Ki. Qiao closed out the first game after conceding 18 points to his opponent. He sealed the second game 21-16 to set up Sunday's clash with Wan Ho.

Qiao, whose progress in the 2016 Japan Open was stalled by Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei in the Round of 16 clash, would not want to let go of a massive opportunity in Seoul.

However, it will be a difficult task for the 41st-ranked Qiao to outclass his eighth-ranked opponent, who will be having the backing of the home crowd in the final.
