Singapore police warned the public on Saturday against fake letters which are supposedly sent by a police officer. The police said in an advisory that they have received a number of reports that were lodged by the public, who admitted of getting letters signed off by an "INSP Wong Ka Wei, Senior Investigation Officer, Central Police Division".
According to reports, the letter requested its recipients to assist in investigations into "an offence of Public Nuisance committed at Cantonment Police Division on 28 November 2016". They were asked to report at the Central Police Division on Dec 20, 2016.
"These letters were not issued by the police. There is no Cantonment Police Division within the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and there is also no officer by the name of INSP Wong Ka Wei from Central Police Division," SPF told Channel NewsAsia.
The police said if any member of the public receives such a letter, he should verify the authenticity of it by contacting the respective police divisions.
