Singapore Symphony Orchestra is going to celebrate 40 years of its existence in 2018 by performing after 17 years in Malaysia's capital Kuala Lumpur on November 19, Sunday. This is the second show after its first overseas performance in Kuala Lumpur in 1980.
The orchestra is performing in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas hall. The performance features director Lan Shui, with upcoming talent prodigy from Malaysia, Tengku Irfan, who has been cast for the orchestra and concludes with Brahms' Second Symphony, covered with Romantic Pastrol Sunshine.
They will be performing alongside 100 strong combined choirs, comprising the Singapore Symphony Chorus, Singapore Symphony Youth Choir and the Choir of Transylvania State Philarmonic. According to the director of orchestra Lan Shui, the concert had been long overdue and they are glad to be finally able to perform in Malaysia after a long break.
This concert will occur consecutively for two days, starting with a premiere on November 17 starring the same set of bands that will be performing at Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore. The Kuala Lumpur performance is on November 19.
The director of the symphony added that the gap of 17 years was not intentional, as the two countries always maintained a good relationship by sharing resources and artists across the borders over the years on a regular basis.
The Singapore based orchestra performed in Europe in 2016 as a part of the international touring schedule and will now be focusing more on the parts of Asia opening from Malaysia. The Singapore Symphony Orchestra performs mostly in Esplanade Concert Hall, while sometimes playing in Victoria Concert Hall. They perform around 100 concerts per year and Lan Shui is the current music director since 1997.
The choral director Eudenice Plaruan made up the band of volunteers who are united by a love for their choral singing. Further, there is a collaborative of concerts by SSO starting from Phantom of the Opera at Victoria Concert Hall on 26 October, The Ring – an Orchestral Adventure on 27 October and so on.
The Singapore National Youth orchestra had also performed in November 2016 as a part of Singapore National Youth Orchestra in Dewan Filharmonik Petronas. Tickets for Symphony Orchestra are available, ranging from RM 150, RM 120, RM 90 and RM 60.
