Singapore Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced on Thursday that Judicial Commissioners See Kee Oon and Chua Lee Ming have been appointed as the new Judges of the High Court. Their terms will take effect on Jan 31.
With the latest appointments, the Supreme Court has 16 judges that includes the Chief Justice and four Judges of Appeal, nine Judicial Commissioners, five Senior Judges and 12 International Judges.
On April 14, 2014, See was promoted to the High Court Bench for a three-year term. But, he has been serving as the Presiding Judge of the State Courts concurrently. The PMO said that apart from managing the State Courts, See also took on a "substantial load" of adjudication work. He also presided over the City Harvest Church trial.
The PMO added that he has also has "added strength to the Bench" as he had chaired many committees including the Probation Committee, the Community Justice Centre and the Criminal Legal Assistance Steering Committee.
On the other hand, Chua, who had a varied career in the legal service and private sector, was appointed Judicial Commissioner on Feb 1, 2015. His term was for valid for two years. According to the PMO, Chua has "contributed significantly" to the Bench especially in the field of company law.
The swearing-in ceremony will be held on Feb 1 for all the appointments at the Istana.
