A 31-year-old Singaporean man died on Wednesday after being hit by other men at a car park in the Clarke Quay area last Sunday. Shin Min Daily News reported on Thursday that the victim, identified as Tan Jun Jie, was taken to Singapore General Hospital.
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said in a news release on Thursday that it received a call for assistance at 3E River Valley Road at about 4.13 am on Sunday.
The victim's mother, who gave her name as Madam Huang Cuili, said her son suffered from bleeding in the brain after the incident and was in a serious condition. The police said in a news release that Tan eventually succumbed to the injuries suffered during the attack and died in hospital at about 9.58 am.
In relation to the case, the police have arrested nine suspects, aged between 20 and 30. Three of the suspects, Fino Foo, Terence Tan and Chen Wen Cai, have been charged for rioting with a deadly weapon on Friday, while three more will be charged for the same offence.
If convicted, the suspects can be jailed for up to 10 years and caned. Meanwhile, the police said investigations against the last three suspects are still ongoing.
