Singapore's famous Marina Bay which is a 360-hectare extension to the adjacent Central Business District, hosting many centres like the Marina Bay platform, will be renamed NS Square, that commemorates permanent space for National Service and also acts as a primary venue for the National Day Parade.

Prime Minister Lee Hseing announced the revamp of the platform during the NS50 party, which was attended by 1,500 guest including NS men, NSF's, employers, cabinet ministers such as deputy minister Teo Chee Hean, Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen among others.

The new venue can be used for parades and also for community events such as art performances, weekend markets and huge events. The square will have a larger seating capacity, allowing more number of Singaporeans to witness National Defence Parade, basic Military graduation and Unit Stand Down parades, said the Ministry of Defence in a statement. It also added that further details on the expansion are being finalised and will be announced later.

At present, the seating capacity of the platform is around 27,000 and it has hosted seven NDPs since 2007 including this year 's edition which was a crowd puller and was set against the backdrop of the city skyline, offering multiple vantage points to enjoy the fireworks.

Small countries like Japan, Singapore, and even Malaysia or Indonesia use reclamation land to expand their limited area of usable natural land to create a new land. They build outwards into local bodies of water, by dumping heavy rocks into the desired waters for creating firm base until the new land height is reached.
