Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) seized a total of about 1kg of heroin from a Malaysia-registered motorcycle at Woodlands Checkpoint on Wednesday. A 25-year-old Malaysian driver has been arrested by the officers.
During the course of checks, officers from the ICA and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) detected two bundles suspected to contain controlled drugs under the seat of the motorcycle. The authorities said that the seized drugs were estimated to be worth about S$106,000.
The Malaysian man has been handed over to the CNB for further investigations. The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g.
According to CNB, 15g of diamorphine (equivalent to 1,250 straws*) is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week.
