Singapore's Central Narcotics Bureau arrested five suspected drug offenders on Tuesday and seized about 1.31kg of heroin in an operation. The authorities said in a press release on Wednesday that total estimated value of the drugs were more than S$138,000.
According to reports, the CNB officers raided a flat at Toa Payoh East and arrested three suspected drug traffickers, including two males and a female, within the unit. CNB said that about 1kg of heroin was recovered from within the unit.
The preliminary investigations led to the arrest of 44-year-old suspected drug trafficker in the vicinity of Tampines Street 44. "The 44-year-old male suspect was believed to be the intended recipient of some of the heroin recovered within the unit at Toa Payoh East," CNB said in the press release.
The authorities further added that about 313g of heroin was recovered from the 44-year-old male suspect.
In addition to this, the CNB officers have also arrested a suspected drug abuser who was spotted meeting up with the 44-year-old male prior to his arrest.
CNB said that the investigations into the drug activities of all the suspects are still going on.
The Misuse of Drugs Act provides for the death penalty if the amount of diamorphine (or pure heroin) trafficked exceeds 15g. Authorities say that 15g of diamorphine is equivalent to 1,250 straws, which is sufficient to feed the addiction of about 180 abusers for a week.
