The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) in Singapore said on Friday that acting Ministers Ong Ye Kung and Ng Chee Meng have been promoted as full ministers.
PMO issued a statement saying Ong has been promoted to Education Minister (Higher Education and Skills) while Ng will be operating as the Minister for Education (Schools).
The statement also added that Ong will also be Second Minister in the Ministry of Defence and Ng will be Second Minister in the Ministry of Defence.
Authorities said the promotions, which will take effect on Nov 1, are part of leadership renewal. On Friday, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong posted on Facebook saying: "Building a leadership team is one of my top priorities."
"These changes are part of the renewal process, to reinforce my Cabinet and get a younger team in place, ready to take over," Lee said. "I hope that Singaporeans will give them your full support, and work with us to take Singapore forward," he added.
These promotions are the second round of changes in appointments that has been made by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to this Cabinet.
On Aug 22, PM Lee appointed Lawrence Wong appointed as Second Minister for Finance, and Sim Ann appointed as Senior Minister of State for Trade and Industry as a part of first round changes to his Cabinet.
