Singapore Airlines (SIA) carried more passengers and filled a higher proportion of its seats in September amidst caution that the operating landscape remains competitive.

SIA reported 2.9 percentage points rise in passenger load factor to 80.8 percent in September compared to the same period a year ago.

This was due to stronger passenger demand in all route regions except South West Pacific.

Passenger load factor declined for South West Pacific route region as passenger growth did not keep up with capacity injection.

"The operating landscape remains challenging with ongoing efforts to balance yields against competitive pressures," added Singapore's flag carrier.

Passenger carriage, which is measured by passengers-kilometres, also increased by 8.3 per cent in September.

A total of 2.7 million passengers, including those on SilkAir and Scoot, were carried in September, up from 2.5 million in the same month last year.

Strong growth in demand in India, China and Southeast Asia helped to improve passenger load on SilkAir, said SIA.
