A 22-year-old man has been arrested in Singapore for scamming female victims through a mobile dating application.
The police said they had received several reports from female victims between March to May this year. The victims complained that they had been cheated of their money by an online scammer, who had befriended them through a dating app.
The suspect sometimes allegedly told his female victims that he was involved in a vehicle accident and was in need of money to settle the matter privately with the other party.
While in some cases, he said that he was an interior designer and required money for a "work project".
The police said the suspect would keep giving excuses once the money has been transferred to avoid repay.
The accused has been charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224 in Court for cheating.
If the suspect is found guilty, he might be jailed for up to 10 years and shall also be liable to a fine.
