It was all vintage Federer at the Rod Laver Arena on Friday night as the 17-time Grand Slam champion hit 40 winners to close out the match in just 90 minutes, much to the delight of his fans across the globe. A double break in the first set gave him the necessary push after which the Swiss never looked back.

The 17th seed is looking solid after just dropping a set over the first three rounds of the ongoing tournament. However, on Sunday night he will face a stern test against fifth seed Kei Nishikori.

The Japanese number one was tested in his first match against Andrey Kuznetsov but he has decimated his second round and third round opponents in straight sets.

Nishikori trials 2-4 in head-to-head record against Federer but the world number five prevailed when the two last met at the 2015 World Tour Finals. The Swiss, who has the upperhand on hard courts over his opponent, feels that he has a big test awaiting him on Sunday.

"He [Nishikori] has maybe the best backhand in the business now - I have got my work cut out. He has definitely played better and more tennis in recent months. I know how tough he is as the match goes along. He finds his range and his rhythm, he's tough to stop, Federer said, as quoted by the Wide World of Sports.

"We had a great match at the World Tour Finals a bit over a year back. I have lost to him a couple of times as well. I am aware of the big test for me."
