Over the last month, tens of thousands of Venezuelans have taken to the streets to protest against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who they blame for triple-digit inflation, hours-long lines to get food, shortages of medical supplies and a rise in crime.

At least 26 people have died and more than 400 people have been injured in the violent protests against Maduro's socialist government. According to reports, nearly 1,300 people have been detained in clashes since a Supreme Court ruling that stripped congress of its powers.

Protesters clashed with security forces as they were seen throwing rocks and Molotov cocktails. In response to those, the security forces also used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse crowds, and overnight looting has destroyed dozens of businesses.

But, as the state security forces lean more heavily on tear gas, the protesters have begun gearing up with goggles, gas masks and vinegar-soaked rags. In this gallery, IBTimes Singapore has compiled a series of images showing the protestors geared up with improvised gas masks and goggles.
