Pep Guardiola clinched his first win with Manchester City in Uefa Champions League 2016/17 when his side crushed Borussia Monchengladbach 4-0 on 14 September.
The newly-appointed manager was all praise of his wrecker-in-chief Sergio Aguero, who scored a hat-trick on Wednesday. The Argentine striker opened the scoring in the ninth minute of the game when he sent Aleksandar Kolarov's low cross in from the left into the net. In the 28th minute, Aguero doubled the lead from the spot after debutant Ilkay Gundogan was fouled inside the box.
City were constantly in search of goals as the midfield led by Kevin de Bruyne was on top of its game against the German side. After going into the break with a 2-0 advantage, the home side kept pressing for more and were rewarded with another fine Aguero goal, this time from a Sterling through ball in the 77th minute. Iheanacho added to Monchengladbach's woes with a stoppage time goal.
Guardiola couldn't thank Aguero less as he feels City needed to start well against the Bundesliga side before they take on Barcelona and Celtic in their group stages. Aguero has nine goals from five games this season and is looking good for more, according to his manager.
"Sergio is good because he is good. He was good with Manuel (Pellegrini) and he is good with the national team," Guardiola was quoted as saying by Reuters.
"He just has a talent to score goals that is natural, I cannot teach him that. What I can tell him is there is a team behind him that is going to help him.
"Today we came with a real, real good performance to beat them. We have five games left in the group stages. But this home win was very, very important. If we don't have points against Monchengladbach and Celtic, it would be difficult for us with Barcelona in the group."
After a bright start to his career with City, Guardiola feels optimistic about having a good time in the ongoing season. His side is unbeaten in the Premier League so far winning four straight games including the Manchester derby against United. The former Barcelona manager insists The Citizens should strive to be on top every season.
"I think the next step for this club is to be there every season. We have to be there in the quarter-final, semi-final and if we are lucky and good enough, in the final. To be there means not to be there once and disappear. The big clubs win and win again to stay here. The target is to be there every season.
"But from the way they have played the last six to seven official games, I am confident that I am going to enjoy this year."
