At least six people were killed and more than 150 injured when a Karachi-bound express train collided with a freight train on Thursday, officials said.
Pakistan's Geo News quoted officials saying the accident happened near Multan, in Punjab province, overturning part of the Awam Express.
The train was en route to Karachi from Peshawar.
The railway official Saima Bashir blamed the accident on the passenger train driver. Basir said he failed to heed a red signal that went up after the goods train had stopped.
Train accidents are quite common in Pakistan and the railways have seen decades of decline due to corruption, mismanagement and lack of investment.
Last year in November, 19 people died in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province after a train's brakes failed and it sped down the side of a mountain.
